This 60-hour program is infused with a real-world, applicable curriculum designed to empower students to meet the demands of today's school counselor. Take your career to the next level with SHSU’s highly respected and nationally accredited program. It is designed to comply with existing Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards for professional school counseling certification and meets academic requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) license in Texas. Gain the skills necessary to work with today’s students as a counselor and meet the requirements to take the exam for school counseling.
Where and How Is This Program Available?
The M.Ed. in School Counseling is offered in person at our Huntsville campus or Woodlands campus, with a final semester internship post comprehensive examination.
Lead in Service with School Counsel
Through a carefully constructed curriculum, students learn real-world applications along with research, to tackle complex issues in counseling. Our well-known program covers courses in treatment planning, addiction, intervention, and leadership and advocacy, providing our students with the knowledge and skills needed to lead and support others in a variety of counseling settings. The program offers internships and a practicum where students get to apply their knowledge and skills into real-world settings, alongside the mentorship of our faculty. To reach your goals, you may add any of our counseling related certificates to hone your skills.
