At Sam Houston State University, living on campus means joining a welcoming community that feels like home. Our beautiful, tree-lined campus makes it easy to connect, belong, and make lifelong friends. Whether you want the energy of a traditional hall or the independence of an apartment, SHSU housing is designed to help you live comfortably and thrive.

What's Provided? 

Your Residence Life team provides you with a twin XL mattress (36" x 78"), a full mattress at select locations, shelves, desk, chair, dresser, closet, Wi-Fi, free laundry equipment in each hall and our on-campus mail center.

Open to first-year in the College of Health Sciences interested in a career in helping others in health. Piney Woods Hall

Residence Life offers full and half residence hall tours Monday through Friday (excluding campus closures and weather conditions).

  • Full Tours: Offered at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM and will include a variety of residence halls (Lone Star Hall, Estill Hall, Raven Village, and Piney Woods Hall).
  • Half Tours: Available between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM and include two residence halls (Lone Star Hall and Estill Hall).
Full tours are only available at 3:00 pm on Preview Days.
Preview Days: 10/17, 10/24, 11/7, and 11/13

For special accommodations, please email us at reslife@shsu.edu before your visit so we can make the necessary arrangements. No reservation is required unless you are requesting accommodations or bringing a large group.

First Year Housing/Meal Plan Policy 

All students entering SHSU within 1 year of high school are required to reside on-campus and purchase a University Resident Meal Plan their first year of college, usually fall and spring semesters.

Housing Application Timeline

All housing information and notifications will be sent to the students' SHSU email account.

Spring 2026 Term

  • October 1: Housing Application opens to new students who have been admitted to Sam Houston State University. At this time, only Personal and Contact Details, Medical Information, Questionnaire, and Contract tabs are available.
  • Room Selection for Spring will be made by Residence Life, students will be notified of assignment before University winter break closure

Summer 2026 Term:

  • February 1: Housing Application opens to new students who have been admitted to Sam Houston State University. At this time, only the Personal and Contact Details, Medical Information, Questionnaire, and Contact tabs are available.
  • Room Selection for Summer will be made by Residence Life, students will be notified of assignment in early May.

Housing contract renewal for the 25 - 26 academic year has ended.

All students entering SHSU within 1 year of high school are required to reside on-campus and purchase a University Resident Meal Plan their first year of college, usually fall and spring semesters.

Students must have an active SHSU student computer account to complete a housing application. Activate your student account here.

All new students must submit verification of Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination to the Student Health Center prior to selecting a room. Residence Life cannot accept Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination records.

Students who currently live on-campus will follow Housing Renewal deadlines in early Spring of each academic year.

To apply for housing, students must first be accepted to SHSU. Housing applications may be made online through the MySam Student Portal.

Oct. 1: Housing application opens to new students.

Oct. 1 - July 15: Roommate selection available.
